Growing vegetables tools and tips for success

13:58 - 05 January 2010

Growing vegetables within your greenhouse can prove to be very challenging especially due to the four season climate the United Kingdom provides to us. Also, some vegetables grow better at different temperatures than others thus making it very difficult for individuals like us to maintain a successful growing period for our vegetables. Thus, within this article are some great tips for all gardeners in growing their vegetables inside their greenhouse successfully.

Broad Beans
Broad Bean vegetables are very easy to grow thus makes a great start to all beginners looking into growing vegetables inside their greenhouses. Due to their natural growth patterns, broad beans normally grow within the periods of October to November or from February until March. However, with the advantage of a greenhouse, you can tend to these needs within any issue. Broad beans can grow at a temperature of 2°C however their most preferred temperatures are at 10°C. The tools needed to grow broad beans would be a shovel (or a spade), a hand fork, and a watering can (unless you have automatic sprinklers in your greenhouse) these can be bought or installed (such as the sprinklers or other heating devices) in good gardening shops such as Growhouse which have proven a great reputation throughout UK’s gardening industry. Broad beans prefer a soil pH level of 6.0 to 6.8. You will know that the beans are ready for harvesting once they start showing through the pod and after you have harvested these beans, dig the plants back into the soil in order to enhance your soil’s nutrients.

Carrots
Carrots that are freshly taken straight from the ground of your greenhouse often taste a lot better than those bought in the shops. This may be due to the satisfactory feeling of accomplishment or even better yet, the taste of home grown vegetables filling you up! Carrots need fertile and deep soil in order for their long tap roots to grow. It is possible to grow carrots in deep pots which may prove to be easier especially for the beginner gardener in the greenhouse (preparation time for carrots in pots is a lot shorter than the normal method). If you are starting with growing from the seed, you will have to sow the seeds approximately half an inch deep into the soil. Carrots require a lot of water throughout their growth periods therefore it is crucial that you water them regularly. The tools required to plant carrots would be a shovel (or spade), a watering can, some gardening gloves, all of which can be purchased in Growhouse for a good long-lasting product with great quality.
