Gardening association wins cash prize

Greenhouse enthusiasts might be interested to learn that the Arborfield Gardening Association has won the Wokingham Times' Community Cash Token.

The gardening club has won the £200 cash prize at the perfect time, as it is due to mark its 50-year anniversary in 2012 and the money could be put towards a bumper celebration.

Chairman of the association Jan Heard said the members meet every month to discuss new events and they also hold spring and summer shows in the community every year.

"I will have to put it to the community and see what we decide to do but we are about to celebrate our 50th birthday so it will come in useful to help celebrate," she added.

Owner of TradeMark Windows Mark Ashwell - sponsor of the competition - said the club was awarded the money because it was an active and vibrant part of the community.

The Wokingham Times offers a Community Cash Token every month to associations that do their bit for the community.
