Council to use winter gardening budget on war memorial

Greenhouse enthusiasts in East Lothian might be interested to learn that the council will use funds originally earmarked for a celebration to mark North Berwick in Bloom's success for winter planting at the war memorial garden instead.
Councillors had planned to hold a party after the town won the David Kerr Coastal Resort Trophy at this year's Beautiful Scotland awards. However In Bloom requested the money be spent on brightening up the war memorial garden.
Mrs Pat Burton, chairman of the East Lothian Council, paid tribute to the volunteers, gardeners and everyone who contributed to the success in the Beautiful Scotland awards earlier this year.
"The war memorial garden is a centrepiece for North Berwick and has won an award from the British Legion in the past," she told the East Lothian News.
Beautiful Scotland is a community environmental improvement campaign and award scheme which has been going for 40 years.
