Greenhouse enthusiasts might be interested to learn a green-fingered schoolgirl has been named winner of the Lambeth Living Estates in Bloom Contest.
Teagon Gregory-Weekes took the top prize and was crowned the borough's best gardener ahead of 130 others. Ms Gregory-Weekes also won the young gardener of the year award.
Lambeth Living chief executive Neil Litherland told Your Local Guardian the level of gardening expertise that tenants showed was excellent and has made a huge contribution to brightening up the local environment.
Ms Gregory-Weekes added: "I was really surprised to have won, but I'm over the moon. I love gardening, especially planting and seeing things grow, and I love learning about new plants."
Research from the Royal Horticultural Society earlier this month suggested horticultural skills being taught to children stay with them for life. The study showed that 40 per cent of youngsters in the UK are being taught to garden at school.
