Local gardeners given chance to impress at garden show

Local gardeners in Scotland were able to show off their greenhouse produce last weekend at Clovenfields' first ever garden show.
Despite the rain, around 55 villagers turned out to the prize-giving barbecue in the evening to see Jim Murray announced as the winner.
Community council chair Michelle Ballantyne told the Southern Reporter Mr Murray's Japanese-themed garden deserved the judges' backing.
"His beautiful Japanese-style garden, inspired by his travels around the world, was a very popular and deserved winner," she said.
Scottish Borders Council representative Gavin Logan said allowing people to show off their greenhouse produce was a great idea and he hoped that it would become an annual fixture in the village.
The competition attracted 15 entrants and was judged by three independent adjudicators who scored gardens based on Royal Horticultural Society rules.
The man behind the event, Dr Michael Wilson, was the former chief executive of Horticulture Research International, which merged with Warwick University in 2004.
