Organic food sales 'could surge soon'

Greenhouse enthusiasts in the UK may be interested to hear that organic food sales could be about to surge after a period of decline.
That is according to Richard Jacobs, chief executive of Organic Farmers & Growers, who suggested the drop in purchases of organically grown produce looks to have bottomed out.
He pointed out that the amount of beef being sold has risen, while baby foods and textiles have also seen a resurgence.
The signs of continued recovery in the sector are there and it is important to remember that the recent dip has followed ten to 15 years of double digit growth, Mr Jacobs continued.
"We've established a strong market in the UK, a market worth in the region of £1.5 to £2 billion a year - so it's a significant market place now," he added.
Organic Farmers & Growers is one of several control bodies accredited by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and is approved to inspect organic production and processing in Britain.
