Ham youngsters receive garden cash boost

A group of young greenhouse and gardening enthusiasts in Ham have received a cash boost for their allotment project.
The Ham and Petersham Association (HPA) handed over the £500 donation to the band of pupils at Grey Court school because of their garden's potential for long term development, the Richmond and Twickenham Times reports.
Further motivation for the award was provided by the fact that pupils at the school had helped out with the successful Ham Open Gardens event earlier this year.
Grey Court teacher and allotment overseer Sylvia Munday said the donation would help to provide the valuable programme with a solid future.
"This is an excellent project for integrating Grey Court students with the local community," she remarked. "We had funding for the initial build and establishing of the allotment but this contribution makes all the difference because it makes the allotment sustainable as an ongoing project."
Kelmarsh Hall's 18th century walled garden is giving young horticulturalists the chance to find out about the joys of growing their own fruit and vegetables, the Northampton Chronicle reports.
