Summer is the time to "prim and preen"

16:43 10th June 2011

Summer is the time for greenhouse and gardening enthusiasts to "prim and preen", according to one horticulture expert.

Deadheading roses and sowing perennial seed plants are just two of the jobs that fall into that category, Homes lower case? and garden expert Laura Henderson commented.

She went on to point out that it is also vital to keep on top of watering, feeding and weeding at this time of year, due to the warm temperatures that can dry everything out.

When it comes to garden design, she continued, incorporating interior design techniques is all the rage.

"Garden design these days is seen much more as an extension of home style trends – at present it's all about authentic, wholesome accents," she explained.

Ms Henderson went on to point out that fruit and vegetables make great garden borders, "so make the backbone of your garden hardy perennials like viburnum, ceanothus and escallonia that take care of themselves".ADNFCR-2584-ID-800575500-ADNFCR
