Plenty of gardening jobs for June, expert says

16:48 6th June 2011

June is the start of summer and is one of the busiest times for gardening and greenhouse enthusiasts, with plenty of jobs to do.

According to Northampton Garden Centre plant expert David Major, these include keeping soil moist with a good layer of mulch, as well as harvesting any early varieties of vegetables.

Writing in the Northampton Chronicle and Echo, the expert went on to suggest that June is also the right time to "dead head delphiniums and lupins once they have flowered as this will help promote more blooms".

On the lawn, it is important to keep the grass well fed with a liquid fertiliser, raising the mower blades slightly when cutting to prevent the whole lot drying up in the heat.

Another tip put forward by Mr Major was to take house plants outside around this time of year.

"But remember to take them back inside in September," he warned.ADNFCR-2584-ID-800569033-ADNFCR
