Keep young plants well watered in June, experts suggest

16:45 2nd June 2011

June is the time to do many things in the garden, including making sure newly planted plants are well watered.

According to experts at the Eden Project, part of this process is to water plants directly by the stem and not over the whole of the bare soil, the Telegraph reports.

Also important in the coming four weeks is to stay one step ahead of weeds by using a regular hoe, they explained, saying: "It's good to dig out the perennial ones, such as dandelions, before they produce more seed."

Additionally, June is a great time to plant out vegetables like courgettes, sweet corn, pumpkins and dwarf, climbing and runner beans.

Do not forget to protect young plants with plastic bottles or fleece until they begin to grow, however.

Finally, the specialists suggested, indoor plants and flowering and fruiting plants should be given a boost with liquid fertiliser on dull, damp days.ADNFCR-2584-ID-800565846-ADNFCR
