Garden ornamentation "is a logical progression to decorating a house"

Adding garden ornaments to an outside space is a logical progression from decorating the house, an expert has stated.
Speaking on the eve of a new exhibition of garden statues at Mallet antique dealers on London's Bond Street, the company's Justin Evershed-Martin said the fashion for ornamentation was huge in the late 17th and early 18th century.
He admitted that it may not be to everyone's taste these days, but revealed there is a big market for " dramatic, beautiful and exceptional" classical 18th or 19th century pieces for use both indoors and outside.
"The freedom that the original designers had two or so hundred years ago when approaching pieces for outdoors gives many of their creations a different flavour from those only ever intended for conservative sculpture galleries," Mr Evershed-Martin explained.
Just like with the interior design of a house, there are a variety of tastes when it comes to kitting out a garden, the expert added, with homeowners choosing a balance of both contemporary and traditional pieces.
