Which? Gardening recommends 'planting out veg' in May

18:06 12th May 2011

Gardeners should have planted vegetables such as tomatoes, squashes, pumpkins and courgettes by May, according to Richard Gianfrancesco, head of research for Which? Gardening.

Mr Gianfrancesco also suggested that it is important to keep an eye on lawns which may have dried out due to the recent hot weather.

He said: "It is getting towards the time where you are going to be starting to grow those tender vegetables ... and you will be planting those out by the end of the month."

Borders and beds need to be maintained as well, he warned.

Mr Gianfrancesco's advice comes in light of information by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) website, which suggested that people should look at "sowing and planting out bedding".

According to the RHS, it is important to return to a routine of mowing the lawn as grass will grow in warmer temperatures and will therefore need to be cut.ADNFCR-2584-ID-800531320-ADNFCR
