Plant fruit and vegetables now, expert suggests

14:43 9th March 2011

Greenhouse and gardening enthusiasts have been urged to start planting their fruit and vegetables over the coming weeks to ensure they get the best results.

That is the opinion of Build It editor Anna-Marie DeSouza, who said this time of the year is the start of the planting season.

The expert went on to suggest that many horticulturalists will be spending time, effort and money organising their garden in the next few months.

"People will be clearing their outside space and purchasing new trellis, wooden fences [or] maybe new sections of guttering if this has been damaged over the winter months et cetera," she explained.

Her comments follow the release of research from PlantforLife which showed almost two-thirds of Britons claim to grow their own fruit and vegetables, while more than two-fifths collect and re-use rain water to water their plants.

Meanwhile, more than a quarter said they grow strawberries in hanging baskets.ADNFCR-2584-ID-800451772-ADNFCR
