Spend the week on greenhouse chores, expert says

16:08 3rd March 2011

Getting stuck into greenhouse chores is one of the best ways to spend the next week, according to one writer.

In an article for the Daily Telegraph, Helen Yemm said greenhouse owners should "wash glass, tidy over-wintering plants, clean pots and trays and buy fresh seed compost".

Also on her list of suggestions for the next seven days in the garden were cutting back pansies so they will flower again and checking that sprouting potatoes are the right way up.

On top of that, Ms Yemm added, it is a good idea to "gently pull away last year's leaves on primroses and pulmonarias" and "pinch out tips of sweet peas if they are lanky".

Finally, the expert suggested, turn over rough ground in the allotment, adding fertiliser and removing perennial weed roots at the same time.

Last month, the same writer said a healthy covering of mulch at this time of year can reinvigorate the soil.ADNFCR-2584-ID-800441268-ADNFCR
