DIY chain offers 'turbo veg'

Greenhouse and gardening enthusiasts may be interested to learn one DIY chain is offering "turbo vegetables" in a bid to provide growers with a bumper crop in 2011.

B&Q hopes its new range of super-size plants will satisfy the increasing demand from individuals keen to grow their own produce, the Daily Mail reports.

The company's Steve Guy said the items could appeal to people who have small urban gardens, as well as beginners.

He went on to state that they could also be ideal for individuals who like to show off what they have grown to their neighbours.

"We also think they're especially suited to what we term the Top Gear gardener - men who like their gardening like their cars: bigger, better and faster," he added.

National secretary for the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners Donna McDaid recently claimed home-grown vegetables can help to promote a healthy diet.ADNFCR-2584-ID-800393768-ADNFCR
