Start garden planning in new year, expert says
15:58 31st January 2011
New year is the perfect time for gardening and greenhouse enthusiasts to plan for the next 12 months, an expert has stated.
In an article for the South Wales Echo, Alison Young said now is the time for people to get out seed catalogues and decide what to put in their garden.
If individuals are stuck for ideas, they should flick through some garden books, she continued.
On top of that, Ms Young stated, experienced horticulturalists should make a note of what has worked in the past and what has performed poorly.
"If you have never made a plan then start now as it's a good guide of what is planted and where," she added.
Making a start on turning the soil and adding a little compost can also be very helpful at this time of year, the expert concluded.
In a recent article for the Daily Mail, BBC Gardeners' World contributor Martyn Cox claimed preparing the garden in January makes all the difference to vegetables when it comes to spring and summer.
