Smartphone apps 'could help gardens bloom'

People with aluminium greenhouses could take advantage of new technology that offers hints and tips on growing the perfect plants.
In an article for the Yarmouth County Vanguard, Carla Allen explained devices such as iPhones and iPads have plenty of apps that can give gardening fans a little helping hand.
One such product is Lawn Maintenance Calendar which, for a small price, advises users on the tasks they must complete at specific times of the year in order to keep their lawn looking lovely.
Alternatively, Garden Bugs is a reference guide which details some of the most common insects and pests that can be found outdoors, while Plant Trivia Lite makes learning about different blooms an enjoyable game, Ms Allen noted.
She also drew attention to Home Vegetable Gardening and Grow Herbs, which could be ideal for those who wish to produce some edible treats in their greenhouses.
If people do not have smartphones, they could follow in the footsteps of Katie Payne.
In a recent article for Montclair Patch she said she loves to look through gardening catalogues during the winter months when she cannot get outside.
