Preparing the soil 'key to good vegetables'

Getting out into the garden and preparing the soil is the perfect way for greenhouse enthusiasts to spend the winter, it has been suggested.
In an article for the Daily Mail, BBC Gardeners' World contributor Martyn Cox said carrying out simple groundwork now will make all the difference to vegetables in spring and summer.
Mr Cox went on to highlight two people doing just that - Stephen and Serena Shirley from Kent.
Mr Shirley stated that, while it can be tempting to stay indoors during the cold, getting out and preparing the garden is critical to vegetable-growing success.
"There's no alternative - plants will perform really poorly if you don't sort out the soil now," he said.
They went on to explain the process they follow, which includes removing weeds, digging and covering.
In a recent article for the GateHouse News Service, Suzanne Mahler revealed the best way to a successful garden is to put plants together that complement each other.
