UK allotment memberships rise

Britain is becoming a nation full of garden and greenhouse enthusiasts, according to new figures.
A recent Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) survey showed just how popular growing your own fruit and vegetables has become.
The statistics revealed that almost three in four (73 per cent) gardening clubs and allotments in Britain have recorded a rise or stabilisation of membership numbers in the past four months.
The reasons for the rise in popularity are many, according to RHS community horticulture manager Stephanie Eynon.
She explained that people are keener than ever to grow their own cheap and healthy food while being able to pinch ideas and tips from other gardeners is also an appealing facet of allotment growing.
"But by far the biggest benefit for joining up is the social aspect - which is great," Ms Eynon added.
Those interested in using their garden, greenhouse or allotment to grow their own food can find more information about it on the RHS website, which contains monthly tips on how to produce tasty grub.
