Somerset gardens undergoing renovation
18:52 7th June 2010
A garden attraction in Somerset is in the first of a three-year renovation programme.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) reported that the Regency Gardens at Chard's Cricket St Thomas Hotel are undergoing some much-needed maintenance.
However, bosses at the attraction, which once housed a wildlife park, are keen to get garden and greenhouse experts involved in the project.
Work so far has included the draining of several man-made lakes which had amassed a number of decades worth of silt.
A new ornamental water garden also now welcomes visitors to the park and customers are being asked what they would like to see worked on next.
"We have guests and locals whose children and grandchildren have grown up and remember how it was before," head gardener Dave West told the RHS.
"So we're trying to involve them to make sure they get a say in what they'd like to see more of."
Meanwhile, the RHS recently gave users of its website tips for gardening during June.
