New director role at RHS

A new role has been created at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) as part of the organisation's restructuring plans.
The move sees the end of Jill Cherry's tenure at the organisation and acting director general Gordon Seabright took the opportunity to thank her and wish her well for the future.
"Jill initiated and has successfully overseen the introduction of master plans, which guide the future development of each of our gardens, and was responsible for major projects," he said.
These initiatives included the Bramall Learning Centre at Harlow Carr, the Glasshouse and Clore Learning Centre at Wisley and the Peter Buckley Learning Centre at Rosemoor.
The new role that has been created is called the director of horticulture and will have a number of key responsibilities within the RHS.
It will look after the setting of new policies and management of horticultural standards, as well as overseeing plant committees and the plant trials programme.
The director will also act as an ambassador for the organisation, representing it at events around the country.
This summer sees the RHS host a number of shows, including BBC Gardeners' World Live.
