The Edible Garden 'lacks substance'
17:16 7th April 2010
Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts watching The Edible Garden tonight (April 7th) might be left feeling like they could have gained more from the show, according to a national newspaper.
The Daily Mirror's Jane Simon has seen a preview of the episode, which focuses on peas and beans, and implied that growers might feel that it could do more to provide tips.
Presented by regular Gardeners' World contributor Alys Fowler, viewers would be forgiven for expecting the show to be packed with hard-hitting horticulture.
However, Ms Simon feels that they may be "bemused" by the lifestyle focus of the show, which takes priority over core gardening advice.
She likened it to The Good Life and explained how tonight's edition shows Ms Fowler introducing viewers to her new chickens.
"It's more about lifestyle as we get black and white clips of summers, cutesy animation and costume changes," Ms Simon explained.
Meanwhile, US first lady Michelle Obama continues to be an inspiration to fruit and vegetable growers after asking for the White House kitchen garden to be expanded.
