New gardeners have been given tips on growing their own vegetables.
Individuals who are looking to start growing vegetables for the first time have been advised to stick to five easy crops to build their confidence, it has been reported.
According to a blog written by Isobel Hardman on the Guardian website, new gardeners should stick to simple vegetables for the best results.
She recommends radishes, new potatoes, garlic, courgettes and chard, stating that once they are fully grown they will leave gardeners with a feeling of "pride" and an enthusiasm for growing more of their own food.
"You will find the fancy crops far less terrifying," she writes.
"Of course, there are a few caveats to saying growing veg is easy. You do need to water the things and keep an eye out for odd pest."
Ms Hardman also recommends keeping it simple when it comes to cooking, suggesting omelette and bolognaise.
The Baltimore Sun recently reported that a blogger has found self-watering containers are ideal for growing vegetables for those who are short on space.
