Celebrate the harvest with the RHS
17:58 7th October 2009
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is planning to help garden and greenhouse fans celebrate the autumn harvest by hosting a number of events.
It will put on talks and festivals at its sites around the country in honour of the season in which growers often reap the benefits of their year's work.
Those looking to pick up tips from an experienced horticulturalist could head to Harvest Home - The Joys of Autumn, which takes place on October 17th at Prennard Plants in Somerset.
Following this, Gloucestershire attraction Painswick Rococo Garden is set to host the Harvest Festival, which will see visitors given the chance to sample some recipes made from fresh fruit and vegetables.
There will also be a range of heritage apples on display, while guests can try their hand at juice making.
It takes place from October 19th until November 1st and is designed to celebrate the joys of growing your own food.
In other news, the RHS is asking garden and greenhouse enthusiasts to let it know which lichens are growing in their area to help it monitor pollution.
