RHS to educate greenhouse enthusiast at Garden Wisley
17:37 14th August 2009
Garden and greenhouse fans looking to brush up on their knowledge may wish to pay a visit to the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Garden Wisley next month.
The site is set to host nine days of education for growers, beginning September 4th.
It will coincide with British Science Week and aims at teaching the UK's botany enthusiasts about things like diseases, pests, climate change, composting and issues impacting the honeybee.
Attendees will be able to take part in a guided tour of the site, where the British Ecological Society will enlighten them as to how the UK's gardens are being damaged by climate change.
It will cover how areas like grasslands, lawns and herbaceous borders are being put at risk by the altered conditions.
Other trails will reveal how the RHS conducts research at the site and passes it on to British gardeners.
Scientists at the attraction recently discovered a disease that has never been seen in the UK before.
The pathogen first appeared in Africa in 1933, before revealing itself in the US and continental Europe by attacking basil crops in 1993.
