Horticulture enthusiasts looking to share their passion with their offspring may wonder how best to introduce them to gardening.
One company feels it has come up with the answer by producing Potting Party packs.
The bundles contain a choice of vegetables, herbs or fruit for children to plant, as well as pots for them to decorate and use.
It is designed to involve youngsters in group sessions that encourage learning and instil an interest in garden and greenhouse growing.
People can buy the products individually or order them all online from urban-allotments.com.
Included in the packs are compost, stickers, pots, baby plants and a list of tips to keep the specimens healthy.
"They're the ultimate green party and hopefully by enjoying the party, children will get interested in growing their own and start thinking about where food comes from," explained company spokesperson Sarah Kent.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported prime minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah have become the latest public figures to create a kitchen garden in the grounds of their home.
