Carlisle set to host horticulture show

12:51 23rd April 2009

Gardeners have been invited to the Spring Show at Bitts Park and Victoria Park in Carlisle.

Organised by the local council, the May 3rd and 4th event hopes to take advantage of the holiday weekend by attracting thousands of visitors.

This year's instalment will include Made in Cumbria traders - who will sell crafts and food for the first time.

Additionally, there will be more than 40 other traders and exhibitors with stalls full of plants and gardening accessories.

Music will be provided by the Lairds of Dixieland Jazz Band, who the organisers hope will complement the floral and horticultural art marquees, as well as the exhibits from the Countryside and Green Spaces team.

"There will be stalls and entertainment to suit all tastes and it is sure to be an enjoyable family day out," promised leader of Carlisle City Council Mike Mitchelson.

Children will be welcomed with their own activity marquee and entertainer Daffy Dill.

Admission is £2.50 for adults, while accompanied under-16s get in free.

Meanwhile, the Royal Horticultural Society recently announced a number of open days at its Garden Wisley site in Surrey.
