RHS to hold educational days in Surrey

13:20 21st April 2009

Greenhouse owners keen to pick up tips on how to make their greenhouse and outdoor space flourish may be interested to hear the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) intends to hold a series of open days.

The educational events will take place at Garden Wisley in Surrey and will tie in with the site's trials team operations.

Members of staff spend between one and three years studying plants before deciding whether to give them an Award of Garden Merit.

Those that receive the title are said to be exceptional performers fit for use in residential yards.

Over a number of open days, visitors will be able to discuss specialist topics with the team and can pick up tips on carnations, vegetable growing, perennial shrubs and can indulge in some berry tasting.

It follows the recent RHS announcement that it is to partner Alan Titchmarsh in helping schools around the country develop their own green space, with grants of up to £500 on offer.
