Two events in Harlow Carr's May calendar

16:52 17th April 2009

Green-fingered residents living near the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Garden Harlow Carr have the opportunity to attend two events next month.

On May 3rd, the site will host the Spring Plant Fair, while the following weekend (May 9th and 10th) will see the RHS return for Everything You Need to Know About Rhododendrons.

The first event will feature a sale of a wide variety of species of plants, flowers and grasses.

It will take place from 10:00 until 16:00 BST and features two seminars on planting in containers.

Garden Harlow Carr manager Dean Peckett explained the fair is a good chance to promote garden variety conservation and said such venues were key "banks" of older species.

"In the future we may well need to refer back to older plant varieties should modern ones fall prey to climate change or introduced pests and diseases," he predicted.

The following weekend will give gardeners the chance to learn all they need to know about rhododendrons with two whole days dedicated to the species.
