Birmingham to get new greenhouse

A Birmingham park is to get a new sub-tropical greenhouse following the demolition of an historic tropical greenhouse that has stood on the site for around 100 years.
Cannon Hill Park was donated to the people of Birmingham in 1873 by Louisa Ryland and it is thought that part of the old greenhouse had stood from the late 19th century.
But the historic structure was recently torn down, much to the dismay of locals who had a fond affection for it, according to the Birmingham Mail.
"Every time I come in through the front gate those greenhouses have been there to greet me," Anne Malloy, who has been coming to the park for 17 years, told the newspaper.
"As far as I know there has been no consultation with the public and park users. They just switched the heating off and put a fence up. It's disgusting."
But the fact that a new greenhouse is to be erected will be some comfort to park users.
The investment will be all the more reassuring following the government's refusal to ban the so-called practice of garden-grabbing - where developers build over green spaces.
