Bury scoops fifth consecutive award

13:03 14th October 2008

The town of Bury has been given the title of 'best large town' by the Royal Horticultural Society at its 2008 awards ceremony.

The achievement marks the town's fifth successive year of success at the awards after consistently proving to be the best large town in the country in terms of gardening.

Bury was also nominated to represent the North West in the 2009 'Clean Sweep Award' category of Britain in Bloom.

North West in Bloom judge Brendan Cook underlined how well Bury had done.

"I was very impressed with Bury - its standard reflected everything that is good about the competition," he said.

"The Council as a whole has taken on board the general principles, not just for NW in Bloom, but the whole tidiness of the environment in the borough.

"These things have become the norm as against just happening once a year.

"Therefore, Bury will continue to be at the forefront of the competition."

The town's success will no doubt encourage more residents into their greenhouses or gardens to push for a sixth consecutive title.
